A book highlighting the multitude of little-known actions, places of interest and the activities of the men who served in this area where most regiments of the British and Commonwealth armies saw service during the Great War. Although much has been written of the Ploegsteert (Plugstreet to the troops) links with Bruce Bairnsfather's 'Old Bill' and Winston Churchill plus its position on the southern slopes of the shoulder of the Messines Ridge, little has been documented of its importance during the earlier and mid-stages of the war. Generally spoken of as a quiet area, Plugstreet saw some of the most brutal and bitterly fought actions during the early years of the war.
